The defense, as a whole, did go unappreciated for much of last season.

A lot of the focus on the defense was on the later part of the season and specifically the 4-game win streak.

But now that there’s a high likelihood of the offense being more stable throughout the season, it should bode well for the defense being recognized for its efforts as well.

The vast majority of great competitors in team sports have had a bit of an edge to them.

They tend to do and say things to teammates that bring them up to their standard.

From the outside, it can look egotistical and damn near maniacal at times. Remember Jordan.

But the players that really want to become winners accept being pushed to reach a higher level.

Players like Godwin, Evans, Howard, Brate and Jones have already shown they don’t mind hard criticism or coaching if it leads to them being better and eventually becoming known as winners.

There were lots of mistakes that cost the Team games last year.

Besides leading the League in turnovers again for the second consecutive year, there were too many lapses in communication and overall execution.

The Team also led the League in penalties. While a large amount of penalties didn’t lose many games for the Team, it’s definitely indicative of the frequency of the mental errors Godwin noted.

And not all of those were player-related.

Remember taking a penalty and moving Matt Gay back 5 yards……?

This right here.

A reality check.

This is what good coaching and teaching looks like.

This is what a father/coach would say.

If you tell someone they’re where they need to be, they’ll never get there.

Hey..The days of being  chest thumpers and beaming with pride over beating bottom feeders need to come to end.

On both sides of the ball, the BUCS are going to be up against the League’s biggest rising stars and the “elite”.

There’s just SO many opportunities to make names for the individuals on this roster.

Clearly, Marpet is a self-starter.

No need in being giddy and awe-struck by any player to psyche himself up to be the best he can be.

‘Nuff said.

Straight talk from the defensive coordinator. Again, another reality check and a contrast to what’s being pushed to many fellow BUCS fans.

Bowles isn’t complacent.

He’s not settling for repeating what happened last season.

He’s trying to make something better. Something new.

After he made this statement, other coaches, including Arians, followed suit.
